Trinity Church ReEntry Plan

Updated June 3, 2020

Letter from Pastor Marvin Williams

Dear Trinity Family,

On Monday, June 1, Governor Whitmer lifted the Stay at Home order. Though it’s taken a while, it feels like we are slowly moving back to a sense of normalcy. With the lifting of the Executive Order and movement toward Phase 4 of the Michigan Safe Start Plan, I am sure you’re wondering what this means for Trinity Church.  When we created our Reentry Plan, several factors guided our decision-making process: loving Trinity attendees well and considering your survey feedback, following the wisdom of our staff leadership and Elders, and listening to the recommendations from governmental officials. These factors have not changed. In my email last week, I stated that we had a target date for onsite gatherings by the end of Fall 2020, and that we would regularly evaluate and update that timeline as we received new information.  Thus, based on Governor Whitmer’s most recent update, we are updating our timeline.

In our original Reentry plan, we expected each stage to last 2-3 months, but with the new announcement, we anticipate each stage to last 1-2 months. So, instead of onsite gatherings by the end of Fall, we are now anticipating that we will have onsite gatherings by the end of Summer 2020. We will continue to evaluate and update our plan as needed.

Another change you will see in the coming weeks is, instead of broadcasting the Weekend Gathering from our homes, we will start broadcasting from the church building while you, as a valued member of the Trinity Family, continue to engage with the weekend gatherings from the safety of your home. Also, we will be communicating what [email protected] Gatherings can look like as the recommendation for indoor group sizes increase.

We know no plan is perfect and this might be slower than you desire. I get it. I want nothing more than to stand with you, soon, in the same place to worship our great God. I groan with you and long to sit next to and stand with you (practicing social distancing of course), and experience what The Trinity is experiencing right now – true community. Until such time, we will hope, wait and build deeper connections. Please continue to reach out and engage with your community.

For the last eleven weeks, you have loved your church family well. Now, we are asking for your patience and continued support. I know this transition has been difficult for all of us, but God uses transitions to help us to look back, look inward, look up, and look forward. God will use this transition to make us stronger. We need each other. Remember, we are better together.

May the Lord bless you and keep you, cause his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you. The Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.

Trinity Church On-Campus ReEntry Plan

While the doors at 3355 Dunckel Road have been closed, the church has remained active! At the same time, gathering together is valuable and we look forward to the day when we can all be together again. In consideration of local and federal guidelines, alongside discernment from church leadership, we are planning the following as we return to on-campus gatherings. We are planning on having on-campus weekend gatherings by the end of Summer 2020, but we are evaluating the current plan each month to adjust the timeline, as necessary.

What about specific Ministry activities?

Trinity Church is much more than what happens during our weekend gatherings. Below is a PDF of how specific ministries will be responding to the different stages of our ReEntry plan.

Specific Updates for Summer Events:

  • Impact and Crosswalk Summer Camps have been canceled.
  • [email protected] VBS. Mark your calendars for July 27-31 for Concrete and Cranes VBS! This year we’ll be taking the learning and fun of VBS into our neighborhoods, backyards, and parks. Instead of taking place on our church campus, VBS will be in dozens of places around the Greater Lansing area. Keep an eye out for future emails on how to register your kids. If you’re interested in serving as a Site Host, Site Leader or Assistant Leader, fill out this online form and we’ll contact you with more details: VBS 2020 Volunteer Form.
  • Spiritual Parenting. We are looking at different options for our Spiritual Parenting class. If you are interested in taking the class, please fill out this form to let us know.
