I Love My City

Sunday, May 5th

The whole Trinity family is invited to meet for breakfast and a short worship service, then hit the streets of Lansing to LOVE our neighbors! (Breakfast – 8:30am; One Gathering – 9:30am; Serving – 11:00am) Plan to join us for this amazing morning when people of all ages and abilities will go out together to love our neighbors!

Serving Opportunities

Gardner International Magnet Academy

Purpose: Gardner is the new magnet school for international families in the Lansing School District, with many students who came to the US as refugees. They represent over 30 nations and 50 languages. Trinity has been heavily involved at Gardner and loves the opportunity to welcome the stranger and show Jesus’ love to our neighbors.

Child Appropriate: Age 5+

Tasks:

  • Paint the two cafeterias.
  • Replace the carpeting on the steps in the cafeterias.  (Just a few steps up to a platform.)
  • Spruce up the entrance outdoors – re-mulch, trim the bushes, sweep, rake, etc.  Provide some flowering plants in large pots.
  • Build “buddy benches” and garden “delta beds” (three-sided beds, wood framed) to be ready for flowers later.
Summerplace

Purpose: Summperplace Townhomes provides low-income housing and is an official resettlement site for refugees from all over the world. Trinity has a longstanding relationship with Summerplace and its residents.

Child Appropriate: Age Birth+

Tasks:

  • Build soccer goals (put together from a kit)
  • Block party / festival
Firecracker Foundation

Purpose: The Firecracker Foundation honors the bravery of children who have survived sexual trauma by building a community invested in the healing of their whole being.

Child Appropriate: Age 5+

Tasks:

  • Assembling Furniture
  • Pull out decorative rocks and roots
  • Build planters
  • Plant plants
  • Clean
  • Refinish benches
Sparrow's Nest

Purpose: Sparrow’s Nest is a Christian organization that takes homeless women and their children under their wing and creates homeowners.

Child Appropriate: Age 10+

Tasks:

  • Yard Work
  • Building shed doors
  • Installing a screen door
  • Painting a deck
  • Plant flowers
  • Powerwashing 
His Healing Hands

Purpose: His Healing Hands Clinic is a Christian organization serving as a walk-in clinic to provide medical care to the underserved in the Lansing area. His Healing Hands Church was planted at the clinic to meet the spiritual needs of the patients coming to the clinic. 

Child Appropriate: Age 13+

Tasks:

  • Interior painting
  • Carpet cleaning
  • Picking up trash
Beekman School

Purpose: Beekman services students with Moderate Cognitive Impairments, Severe Cognitive Impairments, Severe Multiple Impairments, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and Emotionally Impairments. In addition, our Young Adult program provides life skills and transition activities for our Moderately Cognitively Impaired student’s ages 18-26.

Aria

Purpose: Aria is a rehabilitation and nursing home that Trinity has been ministering at for a while. Trinity chose Aria because it was the most under-resourced facility in south Lansing and contained more Medicaid beds than any other.

Child Appropriate: Age Birth+

Tasks:

  • Room visits
The Greater Lansing Food Bank's Garden Project

Purpose: The Garden Project works at growing healthy food while cultivating connections. We aim to break down barriers to healthy food production while building capacity in our communities to get at the root cause of food insecurity. 

Child Appropriate: Age 5+

Tasks:

  • Painting water tanks
  • Removing brush
  • Working on paths
  • General garden maintenance
Shared Pregnancy

Purpose: Shared Pregnancy is a Christian organization committed to helping each and every woman experiencing an unexpected or challenging pregnancy in Lansing and the surrounding areas. Shared Pregnancy gives support to moms who otherwise might choose abortion without this support.

Child Appropriate: Age 10+

Tasks:

  • Cleaning
  • Organizing
  • Sorting
Hannah's House

Purpose: Out of concern for unborn babies and their mothers, Hannah’s House offers homeless, pregnant moms a haven of security,
comfort, and stability in a loving, supportive, structured, Christian home. This ministry provides the crucial support needed to help homeless women choose not to have abortions.

Child Appropriate: Age 10+

Tasks:

  • Raking
  • Deep cleaning
  • Sorting baby clothes
  • Weed gardens
  • Replace a piece of broken drywall
Park Place Manor

Purpose: Park Place Manor is a low-income housing development that Trinity has had a longstanding ministry relationship with. The apartments are managed by a Christian who longs to make Jesus known to the residents. It houses several of the students we minister to at Gardner International Magnet School.

Child Appropriate: Age 5+

Tasks:

  • Pick up trash
  • Rake leaves
Endeavor House

Purpose: Endeavor House Ministries is a residential, Christ-centered, community based transitional housing program designed to help men find freedom from drug and alcohol addiction. Our intent is to equip the participants with the life skills and coping mechanisms necessary to ensure them a successful transition back into everyday society upon completion of the program. We provide a safe, structured learning environment in our one year program.

Child Appropriate: Age 10+

Tasks:

  • Spread wood chips
  • Painting exterior stairs
  • Laying pavers for walking paths
  • Replace two wooden steps
  • Trim row of bushes
  • Deep cleaning
Refugee Development Center

Purpose: The Refugee Development Center exists to cultivate a welcoming, thriving community that collaborates with refugees and newcomers through education, engagement, and support.

Child Appropriate: Age 5+

Tasks:

  • Put together care packages for refugees
  • Art for children to create and contribute to the care packages
The House of Promise

Purpose: The House of Promise is a Christian organization that provides survivors of sex abuse and sex trafficking unconditional love, acceptance, and a place to heal. Our goal is to disrupt the destructive patterns of slavery through education and care for the survivors. We do this through training, counseling, and helping the young girls/women relearn basic skills so that they can rebuild their lives and reintegrate into society. 

Child Appropriate: Age 5+

Tasks:

  • Digging up shrubs and planting new shrubs
  • Raking leaves
  • Spreading mulch
